Wisconsin Voters Prioritize Reproductive Rights

Stories Worth Sharing
Published on
April 2, 2025

Last night, in a resounding victory, Susan Crawford won her race for an open Wisconsin Supreme Court seat – extending her role as a legal champion for reproductive rights. Judge Crawford won by roughly 10 points, a win that ensures justices who stand by reproductive rights protections will maintain their 4-3 majority on the court.

This election was critical for access to abortion healthcare in Wisconsin: two cases challenging the state’s 1849 abortion ban are set to come before the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the coming months. Judge Crawford’s deep respect for fundamental human rights will surely inform her legal review of this 176-year-old abortion ban. Abortion access for more than 1.4 million Wisconsin women and girls of reproductive age hangs in the balance.

Judge Crawford is a dedicated advocate for reproductive rights and made reproductive rights a central theme in her campaign. She has played a key role in defending Planned Parenthood against restrictive abortion laws and has worked tirelessly to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.

These results reaffirm that most Americans support public health and a woman’s right to choose. Despite Elon Musk’s history-making financial backing for the anti-choice candidate, voters overwhelmingly supported Crawford.

This victory also underscores the importance of Project 50’s work to build political power for abortion rights at the local level. Every state must have home-grown leadership working to ensure voters know where candidates stand on choice.

When we are plagued by doubts about the future of our nation and whether all the postcard-addressing, door-knocking and check-writing make a difference, we must remember Judge Crawford’s victory and all the volunteers and activists who made it possible.

Thank you to everyone in the Project 50 family who contributed to this momentous achievement in any way. We are in your debt.
