The 2025 election results were a turning point for the reproductive rights movement. Across the country, voters once again made clear that protecting abortion healthcare remains a winning issue — and that when they know where candidates stand, they will choose freedom every time.
In Virginia, the only remaining access point for abortion healthcare in the South, voters delivered a resounding victory for reproductive freedom. Abigail Spanberger was elected the state’s first woman governor with 56.7% of the vote - the strongest performance by any pro-choice gubernatorial candidate in Virginia this century.
And there’s more: pro-choice leadership in the state legislature, the Virginia House of Delegates, expanded decisively. Protecting and expanding pro-choice leadership is vitally important in Virginia, where a critical reproductive rights constitutional amendment is working its way through the legislature.
Thanks to the tireless organizing of our state partner Repro Rising Virginia, pro-choice candidates flipped all four of their top target districts—unseating anti-choice incumbents in HD 22, 41, 75, and 86. Project 50 proudly supported Repro Rising’s digital voter messaging in these races, and many of you donated directly to help make these victories possible. Your support fueled these wins.
These victories confirmed once again that voters will prioritize reproductive freedom when they know where candidates stand on the issue. That’s what Repro Rising Virginia and all our state allies do: ensure that access to abortion healthcare is always top-of-mind when voters go to the polls.
