Hope, combined with unwavering commitment, a clear-eyed strategy proven to succeed, and a belief in our pro-choice values, is how we win elections.
This potent combination is gaining momentum in anti-choice states across the country, states where women are living under the unspeakable consequences of illegal abortion. In Arkansas, Indiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina and beyond, hope, commitment, and pro-choice values are everywhere. Project 50 is bringing our clear-eyed strategy for success, based on the Personal PAC model in Illinois, to these states and more.
And what a difference it is making!
Pro-choice activists are coming together in these states to field candidates like never before to defeat anti-choice extremists and end right-wing power.
Why does this strategy matter so much?
- Winning just a few legislative seats can stop anti-choice bills that will further restrict abortion access, IVF and birth control.
- Just a few seats can prevent anti-choice legislators from overriding a pro-choice governor’s veto.
These are critical first steps to restoring reproductive healthcare access to the most vulnerable women, who for many reasons, are unable to seek safe harbor in a pro-choice beacon like Illinois.
My favorite result - and the most important benefit of winning just a few seats in a ruby red state - is when legislators return to their capital after the election and see several of their anti-choice colleagues replaced by pro-choice champions. They immediately say to themselves, "Oh s**t, I could be next!"
That is exactly what we need to happen because this realization by anti-choice politicians changes everything. As I have said since day one of being part of the Project50 team, "We have to start with breaking this right-wing fever."

P.S. One of the very best parts of my 33 years as the President of Personal PAC in Illinois was attending the January swearing-in of each new legislative class in Springfield. I sat in the balcony with a big smile on my face looking at the new pro-choice champions you and I had just elected to replace anti-choice incumbents, while plotting which anti-choice leaders I would defeat in the next election. I would love nothing more than for many other tireless pro-choice activists in right-wing states to have that same smile on their faces for the same reasons come January of 2025.
